Hi guys and welcome to my first ever blog post! I am super excited to finally be doing this and getting to share my fitness journey with you all.
This is something i have wanted to do for so long and unfortunately have let life get in the way but not anymore. You have my undivided attention 🙂
First of all i would like to formally introduce myself and let you know what you can expect from my blog and my brand new YouTube channel that you can view here or below.
If you’re reading this blog, you may have found me through my social media or be friends or family….hey Mum! Mum’s are always your number one fan right?!
First of all, thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better. I have way too much to say for my own good and thought what better place to get my voice heard than through documenting my journey through the wonderful world of the internet. It’s great that i can get to share how i got here to where i am now, my transformation and also all the helpful knowledge i have acquired along the way which hopefully will help you guys reach your goals as well.
My name is Natale Sugrue. You may have read it as Natalie, that’s ok, i get it a lot haha! Ironically my Dad actually wanted to call me Natalie after his female childhood hero Natalie Wood who played Wonder Woman (turns out i got it mixed up and it was Lynda Carter who played Wonder Woman lol) and now Wonder Woman is my hero! My surname is Spanish and i believe it came over with the Spanish Armada to Ireland. Although to look at me you would not believe i have such an exotic sounding name as I often get mistaken for being Swedish or German.
I am 28 years old and will be twenty nine later this year which is kind of scary and really motivated me to start seriously pursuing my dreams so that i could finally achieve the one thing i have been striving for this entire decade which is to have a body i love and that i am proud of.
Over the last 2 years i have developed a much healthier relationship with food and training. Through different nutritional methods, i have discovered what my body can and can’t handle and i wish in many ways i had done this a lot sooner so that maybe i could’ve alleviated some of the feeling of self hatred for my body sooner.
I live in the City of Coventry which is based in the West Midlands around 20 miles away from Birmingham and if you’re reading this from anywhere else in the world, it’s about a hundred miles away from London haha! I actually live around twenty minutes drive away from Stratford-upon-Avon which was the birthplace of William Shakespeare. I actually think this is a much cooler way to describe where i live near 🙂
Throughout most of my life i have had a very up and down relationship with food and fitness. I found my way into fitness around 4 years ago with the initial intention to just get a better body and my fitspiration (fitness inspiration) at the time was Rhianna.
So i joined my local Pure Gym, got myself a Personal Trainer and my fitness journey began. Initially i was still doing a lot of cardio and using one of those power plate machines. You remember them right? The ones you would stand on that vibrate your mounds of fat away and are supposed to give you the body of your dreams?!
Hmmmmm well anyway, let’s just say it didn’t! I gave up after around 3 months and didn’t return to any kind of training again until June 2013 when i had reached a point where i felt hideous after putting on around 20lbs!
I went online to look for free training programs and found Jamie Eason’t Live Fit Trainer on bodybuilding.com and my relationship with bodybuilding began there. The program itself is 12 weeks long and guides you through exercises, nutrition and as the program progresses you learn about carb cycling and plyometrics. It’s a fantastic program i would recommend to anyone starting out who doesn’t know a lot about fitness or where they want to go with their training. Offering an at home workout guide as well as a gym trainer, it really is the best of both worlds. But if Jamie’s plan isn’t for you, you can find plenty of other free workouts here.
When i first started Jamie’s training plan, i was able to use a small home style gym that had been put together at my place of work. This really helped me get acquainted with the whole weight lifting style of training as it was something i had never done before and lacked confidence in hugely! Four weeks into the program, cardio is introduced! I had to finally brave going to the gym and in to the weights area which absolutely petrified me at the time and i felt very self conscious of training in front of all these muscly men, which i think a lot of women can relate to. Once you actually start training though you think to yourself ‘what’s the big deal?’. Everyone is too concerned with their own training to be focussed on what you are doing but that initial first session is definitely scary….but absolutely worth it!
I finished the program and felt good after losing just under 14lbs but felt lost. I had no idea what direction i wanted to go in to continue training, nor did i know where to even start with training on my own or prepping food. I spent a few months again not training and after putting on weight….yet again, i decided in January 2014 to find another personal trainer but this time over in Nottingham.
I stayed with them for around 9 months and progressed losing 2st in total whilst also gaining some lean muscle but i reached a point where i no longer felt i was benefitting and that i had learnt enough to try training on my own for a while.
Unfortunately this was also around the same time that i lost my beloved dog Barney of 13 years and just kind of lost interest in everything, especially training.
Thankfully i met Jamaine (Instagram: dillaphysique) who was my absolute saviour at the time. He helped me find my way back into training again as he is also into bodybuilding and introduced me to another side of the fitness industry and different gyms etc. We actually met in the gym and have been together for 2 years this October.
I spent most of 2015 training with Jamaine and learning a lot about technique and training from him (he certainly knows what he’s doing!) and even though i gained 2st (literally cannot be left with food lol!) i was able to develop some good muscle tone under his guidance.
Couples prepping together under the others guidance is certainly not advisable in my opinion if you want a relationship at the end of your prep lol! So we mutually agreed i would look to get a personal trainer to lean out in 2016. Jamaine recommend his friend Zac Fotheringham (Instagram: zacfotheringham) and i began training with him earlier this year.
I’ve been dieting now for around 10 weeks since the beginning of January and my first initial goal was to just get in the best shape for Body Power which is an expo for fitness including bodybuilding, powerlifting, competitions and more. I know i won’t be lean or shredded for Body Power but i certainly didn’t want to go again this year feeling as horrible and out of place as i did last year. I came home after the weekend feeling like it had been tarnished by how insecure i felt looking back on photos.
This year i’m also going to FIBO Power, Cologne Germany in a few days which i’m super excited for as i have never been to Germany and apparently this expo is HUGE! I’ll be filming whilst i’m in Germany and look forward to sharing that with you guys on YouTube and also on here. I’m especially looking forward to getting some training sessions in and maybe get some athletes to say hi on the videos 🙂 that would definitely be awesome!
Down to the most important part though, why you should read my blog and follow my journey 🙂
I’ll be looking to bring you guys lots of workout ideas for the gym and at home, help and advise with your prep and the best foods to eat. I’ll also be giving you lots of hints and tips to transform your lifestyle and become the #bestversionofyou!
We’ll get to explore together the fashion side of the fitness world and what my recommendations are for practical but also desirable gym clothes and accessories. It’s great to see so many high street stores bringing out their own active wear lines for women now. Even only a few years ago, women were still restricted to either boring, see-through gym wear that didn’t fit correctly or high end brands such as Nike or Adidas, which don’t get me wrong i still love and purchase myself but it’s great to more fashionable active wear. Affordable and great looking with comfort and wearability in mind, i’ll be doing reviews on which stores to hit and which ones to miss. I mean, why shouldn’t you look fashionable whilst you train? You’re working hard, your work0ut clothes should be able to display that 🙂
As i mentioned above, i also have a YouTube channel where you can view the video version of this blog post. I decided to do things this way as i wanted to provide the same content in multiple formats. For example, when I’m on my break at work or relaxing at home, i like to be able to read yet when i’m doing cardio i prefer to watch something. This way you guys can have the choice to read or watch and you won’t miss out on information regardless of format 🙂 (The video for this post is located at the bottom of this post).
I would really love to hear from as many of you as possible, what you have liked about this post, what you maybe haven’t liked and also your suggestions on what you’d like to see from my website and my channel!
You can find all my details on my contact page or click on one of the social media icons in the side bar or at the top off this page. You can even leave a comment for me at the top of this post 🙂
I’m really looking forward to sharing my lifestyle and fitness transformation with all of you lovely people! I want to show you guys what it’s like through the whole process of dieting from the not lean part of changing my body. I have so much admiration for all the athletes and fitness models i follow but i do feel that a lot of them had already done the majority of their transformation by the time they ventured into the world of social media and even though it’s still incredibly motivating to see their after photos, i wanted to show the whole journey. From deciding to get into bodybuilding and change my life to finding where i want to be in the fitness industry.
I still don’t know if i will compete or do a photoshoot but i look forward to being able to share all of the ups, downs, craziness and ramblings of a mad woman with you guys.
I hope to see you back here soon! Peace and love and thanks again for taking the time to read a little about my world.
